I received an application from my local ATF office and there was a fingerprint card in it. Am I required to send a copy of my prints? I did not see anywhere on the application where they reference a fingerprint card. Any help... | ||

If I recall correctly, the fingerprint card is required only of applicants for commercial (i.e. dealer, manufacturer, pawnbroker, etc.) licenses, not collectors of Curios or Relics. So, it's PROBABLY superfluous. However, the rules seem to change more rapidly than I or anyone else can keep up with them, So I'd suggest that you give the BATF a call or send them a quick email. The best answer I can give you is "probably." You're going to keep the same records in the same bound book, so you'll probably not run afoul of any regulations. I would call them, and send them another letter, and use the license in the meantime - you're doing YOUR part, the issues is that they aren't doing theirs! Adam | ||

can you believe this?? "your tax dollars at work"---called atf today at the number on my license---number has been 'disconnected' with no further info from phone co.---my letter came back in todays mail as 'undeliverable at address'---called my senator(santorum) and his office got back with numbers for me---called atf 'customer service' (daisy), told story, she took my number and was to speak with 'licensing' (diane) who called and said correct license was on it's way and destroy the old one when i receive it---during discussion regards phone numbers, etc. she admitted they "know the number on the licenses is wrong but their complaints in that regard are not heeded"--they continue to send them out anyway and as my wife said "why can't they 'whiteout the bad one and put in the good one"?---thanks for your help and God Bless America, she sure can use it with the government we have---cheers | ||

In response to cowsnplows , I posted this on a different page so here goes again. I applied in late Dec 2001. Check was cashed , recieved a visit from an ATF agent 3 weeks ago and still dont have a license . I live in the NYC area which might explain things. Heres a few things I found out though . Ever wonder why your license app gets mailed to Dallas but the licensing division is in Atlanta ? ATF's bank is in Dallas so apps go there so they can deposit your check in the bank. After check clears the app gets forwarded to Atlanta. Now here in NY , the ATF office was in building 6 ( Customs House) of the WTC complex and was destroyed 9-11. So all the atf agents were reassigned to various other offices. The agent who came to my house was from their new offices in Brooklyn NY . She approved me after the visit but said the app had to get the approval of her supv . He was relocated out in Melville Long Island. After his approval it had to go to his supv who was relocated somewhere out in NJ . Then on to Atlanta for final processing. Think I'm ever going to get it lol ? Also just for the record i'm a NYC PD Lt. so there was nothing in my background check to hold me up. | ||

Hiya Cory! It has nothing to do with your background. I have many friends and acquaintances in the NYC area (I'm originally from Brooklyn) who have had similar problems. The issue is that in certain locales (NYC, NJ, Washington DC) the ATF is aware that there are many local laws that bear on firearms ownership - so things take a little longer and they look a little harder at the applicants. Contrast to somewhere like rural VA, where a VISIT to a C&R applicant is almost unheard of. | ||

Well, the application was dropped off at the dulles distribution center. I will let you know when I hear something. BTW when I dropped off copy 2 to my CLEO they looked at me like I was crazy.. "What is this?" "If I am not to take any action, why are you bringing this here?" When I asked for a copy marked as received for my records.He tried to give me the original back. I told him he needed to keep the original and asked for a photocopy. ??? | ||

The shops charge $20-$25 dollars to transfer a rifle. The license cost me $30 for three years. So, I save the price of the license by the second gun I ordered. It allows any C&R elligible weapon to be delivered to your doorstep. Allows you to buy C&R rifles and handguns out of state as well. SOME dealers give me a discount on the C&R purchases because there's no need for the Form 4473 when dealing with another licensee. Some distributors (I'm think Brownell's especially) will give C&R holders the dealer discount on parts, tools and accessories as well. As for hassles, It's easier than than a 1040-EZ as far as filling it out and sending it in. I believe Cruffler has a section on the main Cruffler.com website that can get you started. The first thing it did for me was get me 33 1/3 off from wolff springs. Brownells, Midway both have dealer programs. The springs were $29.95 so I have paid for 1/3 of my license in the first 2 days. Good People with Guns have never been a problem!! | ||

Question: on the applicantion for license, do I write the police chief's name and address at the bottom? Secondly, when I sign and date it -- what's my "title?" Student? On Certification of compliance -- do I just write my name twice: on #1 and #2? Lastly, when I send this off with a check or money order for thirty dollars, do I need to forward a copy of these sheets to the police or just write a letter telling him I'm getting it? I'm not sure why I'm making copies or specifically what I need to send him. Appreciate any clarity. | ||
