The ATF FAQ indicates that obe is permitted to maintain an electronic bound book provided that the b.b's format is approved by the ATF:

Yes. The Regional Director (Compliance) or other designated ATF official must approve a request for a recordkeeping variance before the licensee may use a computer system in lieu of the "bound book" record required by the regulations. [27 CFR 178.22 and 178.125( h)]

I am looking for any tips in getting a request for a "recordkeeping variance" submitted and approved, such as a form letter, etc.
