Found this for $120, Spanish 1916 short Mauser rechambered in .308. Any opinions? |

Don't remember who imported them and rechambered them but I believe most people will tell you soft steel, not good enough heat tretment and a good chance of it going *kaboom* with you. And other folks take the opposite view. I'd pass. Others will fill you in.

IIRC, these were re-chambered by the Spanish Gov't. But the ammo they used was a .308 cetme cartridge, lower powered than the NATO round. Also, they are small ring Mauser actions. Everything I have read has said it is a BAD (and hazardous) idea to fire 7.62x51 NATO or commercial .308 ammo in these guns. |

I heard they were tested by a lab with proof loads and no problems resulted. Can anyone site the source where they were checked? Would our gun conscious government allow them to be inported if they could possibly find a reason to ban them? |

Read a review at SAMCO that had them tested to destruction, and the test pressures went way of SAAMI specs, meaning well built rifles. |
