Today I received, disassembled and cleaned a 98k Russian capture from Empire Arms.
The rifle is described by Empire Arms as follows:

The following Nazi 98k rifles are RUSSIAN CAPTURES in EXCELLENT condition with bright strong (mostly excellent or better) bores and either solid-wood or lovely laminated buttstocks as-noted (most having visible Nazi cartouches on the right side of the wood).

ALL have mixed pieces-parts (as rebuilt by the Soviets postwar) that are fitted to the gun and usually electro-penciled to match the receiver (the buttstock is always shaved and stamped on the left-side to match).
NONE have cleaning-rods or front sight-hoods, and those with trigger-guards having small non-essential "guard-screws" will be missing those "guard-screws" (Gun Parts Corp sells them cheap).
ALL have an EXTREMELY attractively 98% or better refinish on the metal (which is hot-dip blued) and the wood is very sound though it may have some nicks and scrapes in the thick shellac-type finish (as is common on all Soviet reworks) from handling and storage. Headspace has been checked, and all are excellent in that regard, all bolts are turned-down and blued

I concur with his description in all areas but one. The bolt, action and barrel have some fine exterior pitting that has been cleaned up and blued over (apparently by the Russians). It leaves the gun with a dull appearance over most of the exterior metal surface from the rear sight back including the bolt body. This fine pitting is of no structural concern. The corrosion that caused the pitting has been stopped.
The bore looks fine but has what appears to be some copper fouling as would be expected of a service rifle built in 1937. My patch continues to come out a very light green. I will let you know how the rifle shoots. Or better stated, I will let you know how well I can shoot it. ;-)

OK, since I've been looking for a 98K,I'm interested. I checked out Miltech (very expensive) and Mitchell Arms (yugo variants) . You left how much, are there different grades and how do we contact empire arms ?

You can find Empire Arms at: http://www.empirearms.com
Apply for their early notification page and you will get email informing you of the arrival of the 98k captures. Their service is all internet and is fast and efficent.I payed $270.00 for the Russian capture from them and that is to much for the example I recieved. I live and learn.

You are correct Miltech's items and Mitchell's Yugos are to expensive. On the Yugo Mauser I have some experance. I have purchased 3 like new Yugo M-48A's from Wholesale Guns and Ammo for $149.69/rifle. I like them. I shoot them. The 98k does not hold a candle to the conditon of the these Yugo Mausers. But then the Yugos do not have "Model 98" stamped on the receiver and their receivers are a fraction of an inch shorter then the 98k. Take your pick and good luck.
